A Psychological and Theological Approach to Addiction Counseling

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course addresses the psychological and physiological aspects of addiction. Resources for creating Addiction Recovery programs for the local church will be examined. Students also gain a deeper understanding of a biblical perspective on addiction and recovery, understanding addiction relapse, and develop Christ-centered prevention strategies.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS
Beth D. Baus
Beth D. Baus holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies. She is an adjunct professor for Wilson University and has taught at the college level for over 18 years. Beth has authored 6 books and facilitates a variety of seminars, women’s conferences, and marriage retreats both nationally and internationally. Her private counseling practice is located in Riverside, California where she lives with her husband of 35+ years. Beth and her husband Mike have 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren.
Tim Hadden
Timothy Hadden, pastor of a thriving church-plant in Portland, Oregon, is the husband of Amber and the father of three young boys. He has collaborated on several theological and academic projects, providing extensive written commentary, apologetic discourse, and has recently published a commentary on the book of Exodus. He graduated with honors from Hope International University with an undergraduate in Christian Ministry and Leadership and has recently completed coursework for his master’s degree in Addiction Counseling with Liberty University’s School of Behavioral Sciences and begins his clinical practicum early this fall with one of the largest mental-health and substance abuse recovery and rehab organizations in the Northwest. Timothy is currently a candidate for licensure as a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor I (CADC-I) with the state of Oregon and has worked extensively with individuals who suffer with both mental health and substance-abuse disorders, serving as a residential educator and counselor. Timothy has a passion to bring together a biological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual outlook that addresses the pervasive realities of an epidemic of addiction both within and without the church.
